To My Body/Plucking and Pulling

To My Body

To my body:

Thank you

            for the support

            the protection

not so much for the feelings

            for the hair

not so much for the monthly bleeding

            for the beauty

Plucking and Pulling

She’s plucking and pulling, I scream

in pain. I lay on the pristine salon bed,

biting my tongue. Rose pulls me apart at the seam.

She’s plucking and pulling, I scream,

clench my fists, focus on the nails digging into the palm of my hand

instead of the hair being torn from my body. I deem

this an unfit form of hair removal, but the perfect form of torture.

I think of the next time I’ll lay here with dread.

She’s plucking and pulling, I scream

in pain. I lay on the pristine salon bed.
